It all started October 21, 1967 - The unique idea of letting fans of country music nominate and vote for their favorites - The first and only awards show to ever do so.

The first show was broadcast on the radio from Ernest Tubb's record shop on lower Broadway in Nashville. That premier show marked the first live country music awards ceremony and paved the way for the country award shows to follow. A full crowd was on hand for this momentous event as Music City News founder Faron Young handed out the first country music awards in history.

Jim Owens Entertainment released the first twelve years of this historic awards show in 2007 (1978-1989) and now has just released this new special 8 DVD Collection, Music City News The Nineties (1990-1997) with stars like: Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, Ricky Van Shelton, Travis Tritt, LeAnn Rimes, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Brooks and Dunn, Lorrie Morgan, Faith Hill, Sawyer Brown and many more.

In this collection, the Minnie Pearl Award and the Roger Miller Songwriters Awards were established, with awards going to Barbara Mandrell, Reba McEntire, and Kris Kristofferson. The Living Legend Award was continued as well with touching acceptances from Porter Wagoner, Waylon Jennings, Charley Pride, Willie Nelson, Tammy Wynette, and Roy Rogers.

Throughout the more than thirty years of the Music City News Awards, they were proudly produced by Jim Owens Entertainment, along with Multimedia Entertainment and The Nashville Network.
